Ever thought about having Date Night for One? You should. Got a cat? Shut it in a room with all it needs. A dog? Ask a friend to dogsit. Goldfish? Well, I’m guessing they won’t remember what you’ve been up to during the evening, so they can stay. Kids? A husband? Partner? Send them out. This is time for you, and you alone. But don’t cozy up on the sofa with a fish finger sandwich and a couple of DVDs yet… I suggest lighting a few candles and putting on some music; you’re about to romance your own body.

We’re all busy, but learning our bodies and what makes us tick is more than pampering– we owe it to ourselves to get the most out of our times for pleasure. This can seem a difficult indulgence to slot into our lives, but to make sex more than a basic mechanical and chemical release for your brain and body, you need to take yourself on a sensual date.

Consider how you react to your own touch. Try tracing a feather or a ribbon up your body, starting at your ankles, and leave nothing out. You may be surprised to learn that you get chills when you tickle your own hips, underarms, neck… Venture out of what you know and vary the pressure of your fingertips, the speed of your love toy, the placement of both. Take your time and explore new sensations. Put on headphones and try one of the OhMiBod music activated vibes. Be your own best lover and make Date Night for One an important part of every month. You deserve it, darling.

Good Design Feels Fine

Out with the old, in with the new. By ‘the old’ I’m talking about love toys moulded from the body parts of porn stars from the 1970s. I like good sex and I like good design, and since you’re here, I’m guessing you do too. I may like the feel of a stiff one inside, but I don’t necessarily need it to look like a man - graphic detail and all - to get where I need to go. And by “where I need to go” I mean climax, not Norwich. I’m done with cheap-looking phalluses and vibrators that make me feel dirty. Love toys don’t have to scream triple X to bring me joy. Fun colours, smart controls and body-aware shapes are where we are now, and I could not be happier.

Think that if it’s too pretty, it won’t rock your world? Think again. My latest toy is the Better Than Chocolate from OhMiBod. It has a truly unique shape but don’t let that put you off; it only took a little playtime to figure out how to best put it to use, and once there - whoa! I like to put one point down to tickle my back door and the other reaches my clitoris. That’s the way I take my tea, my dear, but I’m certain you’ll find what works for you. The important thing is that it is so beautifully designed that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to leave it on the side of the bath or my night stand in plain view. Better Than Chocolate is a sweet little thing and doesn’t look like it’s been lopped off a well-endowed Tom Selleck look-alike around to fix your plumbing. (Although I wouldn’t turn Tom away at the door, it must be said…)

What I’m saying is that you don’t need a dirty looking love toy to have a dirty good time. Get yourself some modern lovin’ from a vibe with real design style. You’re going to thank me for it.
